The only genuinely KYC-free route is a decentralised exchange: swap ETH for PEPE straight from a wallet you control, with no account and no identity check. Uniswap on Ethereum is the standard option.
Among centralised exchanges, MEXC lets you trade with light verification but caps withdrawals until you complete full KYC. Every other major exchange — OKX, Bybit, Kraken, Gate.io, KuCoin, Crypto.com — requires full identity verification before you can trade.

| Route | Identity check | Custody | Cost | Honest trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DEX (Uniswap) | None | You hold the keys | ~0.30% pool fee + Ethereum gas | No support, no recovery, scam-token risk |
| MEXC (light) | Partial | Exchange holds coins | 0% / 0.05% | Withdrawal limits; no MiCA licence, so not for EU residents |
| Licensed exchange | Full KYC | Exchange holds coins | 0.08–0.26% | Fiat on-ramps, support, regulatory protection |
Two things “no KYC” does not mean. It does not mean anonymous — every Ethereum transaction is permanently
public, and chain-analysis firms link wallets to identities routinely. It also does not mean tax-free: in most jurisdictions
you owe tax on crypto gains whether or not anyone verified your passport. Skipping KYC changes who holds your coins, not what
you owe.
The bridged-token trap. PEPE also exists as bridged contracts on BNB Chain, Arbitrum and Avalanche, each with a
different address. If you swap on the wrong network you will end up holding a different asset than you intended, often with a
fraction of the liquidity. Confirm you are on Ethereum mainnet and that the contract matches the address
above.
MEXC is the one large centralised exchange that still lets you start trading with minimal verification, and it has the
cheapest fees on our whole comparison at 0% maker and 0.05% taker. Withdrawal limits apply until you complete
full KYC, so treat it as a trading venue rather than a place to accumulate a position you intend to move.
The important caveat: MEXC holds no MiCA licence, so it is not authorised to serve EU/EEA residents after
1 July 2026. If you are in the EU, this route is closed to you regardless of the KYC question — see our
MiCA guide for what remains available.
It is worth being clear-eyed about the trade rather than treating verification as pure loss. A licensed exchange gives you
fiat deposits from your own bank, a support team when a transfer goes wrong, insurance and segregation requirements on
customer assets, and recourse to a regulator. On a DEX, an irreversible mistake is simply irreversible — wrong address,
phishing site, or a fake token means the money is gone, and there is nobody to appeal to.
Realistically, no. Card and bank purchases run through regulated payment processors that are legally required to verify identity. The KYC-free routes all start from crypto you already hold, which is why getting your first ETH is the genuine bottleneck rather than the PEPE swap itself.
Using a decentralised exchange is legal in most jurisdictions, including the EU. What changes is protection, not legality: there is no regulated intermediary standing behind the trade, so mistakes and scams have no remedy. You also still owe any applicable tax on gains.
On Ethereum mainnet it is 0x6982508145454ce325ddbe47a25d4ec3d2311933. Always verify it against an independent source such as CoinGecko or Etherscan before swapping, and be aware that bridged versions on BNB Chain, Arbitrum and Avalanche have different addresses.
MEXC permits basic trading with light verification, but withdrawals are limited until you complete full KYC, and the policy can change at any time. It also has no MiCA licence, so EU residents cannot use it after 1 July 2026.
Usually yes. A Uniswap swap costs roughly 0.30% in pool fees plus Ethereum gas, which on a small purchase can easily exceed the total cost of a 0.08% trade on a centralised exchange. The DEX route buys you self-custody and privacy, not savings.
